The United Blood Services is offering a $500 Hero for Life Scholarship to a graduating senior for outstanding volunteer participation in the community blood program. See the guidance department for details.

The Baton Rouge branch of the American Public Works Association is offering a $1,000 scholarship to ONE Central High School senior interested in the future of public works in our community. The student must have a 3.0 GPA, have a good academic standard, and write a 250-500 word essay on "Public Works: Above, Below, and All Around You". All essays and applications are due by May 1, 2010. The Robert J. Aetker, Sr. Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship for a student planning to major in the field of education. Two students will be chosen for this scholarship.The student must have a 3.0 grade point average. The deadline is April 2, 2010. See Mrs. Lobrano for more information.

Lane Regional Medical Center Auxillary is awarding a $2,000 scholarship to any high school graduate living in the hospital service area who is interested in entering the medical field. The recipient mat attend any accredited school in the State of Louisiana. The scholarship will be paid in $250 at the beginning and end of each semester. Student must maintain a B averace in high school, and a B average through college.

The National Science Foundation funded MIND Alliance Project is offering a Residential Summer Institute (June 7-11, 2010) in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to high school students with disabilities (e.g., learning disability, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, blindness, deafness, and other systemic conditions). Upon completion of the institute, the students will receive $250 stipend. Thereafter the students will continue to receive science tutoring, mentoring, college placement, and summer internship services for the next two years. The application form is available here. Avermedia is offering a $5,000 scholarship to a 2010 graduating senior. Requirements include an essay discussing changes in technology. Details HERE.

The LSU Spring Invitational Program offers students the chance to place out of some college courses. Held in April, the initial invitation list includes only seniors who have earned an ACT of 28 or greater and a GPA of 3.2 on LSU core. In order to participate

Students attending Southeastern Louisiana University are eligible for a scholarship offering $500 for each of their first four semesters with an option for continued scholarships. Fifty applicants will be selected and invited to the campus for an interview, and the final twenty recipients will be chosen from that. Students must have earned a 2.5 cumulative GPA, provide a current transcript with an administrative signature, and have proven leadership in their high school career.

Students from foster care can apply to The Casey Family Program and The Orphan Foundation of America. Scholarships are based on merit and need. Applications are available www.jpmorgan.com/pages/smartstart. Due January 25th.

CHS will nominate students for the LA-STEM Research Scholars Program. Students must meet the following criteria: a 3.5 or higher gpa; an ACT 24 or higher; a SAT 1100 or higher; be a U.S.Citizen; must plan to enter science, math, engineering or technology programs at LSU; and be interested in research. If you are interested in being nominated, please contact the CHS Counseling office.

The Science, Technology, Engineering, Math Research Scholars Program (STEM) at Louisiana State University offers two programs for under represented minority (URM) students seeking science degrees, one for high achievers and one for those who are struggling. Students can move between the two programs depending on their academic performance, and that the two programs interact well. BURGER KING® Scholars Awards are $1,000 each and may be used for educational expenses, such as tuition fees and books, during the first year of college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. For students to qualify, they must be a high school senior and a resident of the U.S., Canada or Puerto Rico that meets our criteria below. -Maintains a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher
-Works part-time for a minimum of 10 hours per week or 40 weeks per year
-Be actively involved in community service activities
-Demonstrates financial need (1040 form required)
-Plans to enroll in an accredited two/or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school by Fall of the application year.
