Four Central High juniors were selected in the DEMCO Essay Contest: Brooke Green, Liliana Aguilera, Anna Bordelon, and Brock Rispone. The contest invites students to write a letter to a political leader about an issue that matters to them, encouraging civic engagement and strong writing skills.
After the invitational banquet, Liliana Aguilera, Anna Bordelon, and Brock Rispone were named winners. As part of their achievement, they earned the opportunity to attend the NRECA Rural Electric Youth Tour in Washington, D.C., June 13–20, 2026, with all expenses paid.
This annual contest, sponsored by DEMCO since 1978, allows students to learn more about the electric cooperative business model and gain insight into how the national government operates. Finalists are also invited to present their essays at a banquet held in their honor.
