BHM @ CHS Recap

During the month of February, Central High School celebrated Black History Month with several activities organized by Students United for Safety and Equity (S.U.F.S.E.). These events gave students opportunities to learn, celebrate culture, and engage with one another throughout the month.

The celebration began on February 6 with line dancing in the Union during both lunch shifts, bringing students together through music and movement. On February 12, the Wildcat Band performed during lunch, adding live music to the celebration and creating an energetic atmosphere for students.

On February 13, the Step Team performed during lunch while students were also encouraged to wear HBCU t-shirts with their school uniform bottoms to recognize and celebrate Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Later in the month, students participated in the MTSS Challenge Kindness Table on February 20, where they wrote positive affirmations on sticky notes that were added to a kindness wall in the commons. That same day, students could also wear positive affirmation shirts to spread encouraging messages across campus.

The month wrapped up on February 27 with a Black History Month TikTok trivia activity, where students asked classmates Black history questions for a chance to be featured in a Central High social media reel.

These activities helped create meaningful conversations and moments of celebration throughout campus. Central High is proud of the students and staff who helped organize and participate in this year’s Black History Month events.
